Wisconsinites Protest Immigration Bill

An estimated 14,000 person crowd amassed in and around the capitol holding signs saying #wisconsinisnotarizona and urging Gov. Walker not to sign SB533, a law limiting the ability for immigrants to obtain state ID cards necessary to vote, gain access to public goods, and more. Many were also concerned of Assembly Bill 450 that would allow law enforcement to hold immigrants and citizens for up to two days without bail while their status is investigated. Restaurants, factories, and more were shut down for the protest in commemoration of “a day without Latinos.” The day is meant to shine a light on the positive role immigrants play in the state and nations economy.
